Portrait of Shacknasty Jim, a Modoc man. A geneaological note and chart prepared by Patricia Easterla are on the verso of mount.
Biographical/Historical note:
Shacknasty Jim (Shkeitko or Shok-Nos-Ta) was born in Northern California circa 1850 and died near Seneca, Missouri in 1881. He was chief of the Hot Creek band of Modoc and fought as a scout for the United States Army in the Modoc War of 1872-1873.
